Seberetxe Tunnel
Sustainable tunnel lighting solution ensures safety for many years to come
Northern Spain, especially the Basque Country, is a mountainous region. To facilitate efficient transportation between different areas, tunnels are often necessary. The Seberetxe Tunnel, which opened in 2023, is part of the Southern Metropolitan Bypass (VSM) outside Bilbao and was built to alleviate traffic congestion and improve connectivity in the region.
Modern technology for a safe passage
Interbiak, the tunnel operator, wanted a modern and sustainable lighting solution that would guarantee the long-term performance required of luminaires in a demanding tunnel environment.
After looking at different options, they opted for the TFLEX range of tunnel luminaires. These luminaires perfectly match the requirements for the entrance, threshold and interior zones. They deliver a bright white light that provides excellent visibility and comfort, this optimising safety in the tunnel.
Tunnel lighting adapted to each zone
The energy-efficient TFLEX BASE lights the threshold zones, meeting the stringent luminance requirements of the tunnel entrance and preventing the ‘black hole effect’. The TFLEX COMBI lights the 2 lanes of the interior zone in both tubes.
The high-performance of these luminaires minimised the number of fixtures required to light the tunnel, optimising the total cost of ownership.
Less maintenance, less disruption, less costs
Thanks to the long life of the LEDs and the robust design of the TFLEX range, the luminaires will have a long service life despite the harsh tunnel environment and require little maintenance, meaning less disruption to drivers and lower costs for the tunnel operator.
Interbiak is delighted with the lighting that ensures a fluid flow of traffic with a pleasant driving experience for the people who pass through every day with minimal energy consumption.
