With great sadness we announce the passing of Jean Schréder

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Jean Schréder. a loved and admired member of the Schréder family. He died on 15th July 2022 of a terrible illness, at the young age of 73.

Jean Schréder

After studying at the University of Stuttgart and Regensburg in Germany, Jean joined our company and immersed himself in the adventure of geographically expanding the group that had been initiated by Marcel and Albert Schréder.
He was behind the creation of several subsidiaries including China, Vietnam, Chile, Peru, Bolivia, South Africa, and many others.

With his sense of business, technical prowess and charisma, he was appreciated by all the players in our industry and well known in the Belgian economic and political circles. Indeed, he participated in many Belgian economic missions where he was always keen to promote the country and its companies. During his many travels, he made an impressive number of solid friendships around the world.

He held several important roles, including Honorary President of Schréder, Vice-President and then President (2006) of CELMA, now known as Lighting Europe, and President of Belgelectro Export, a non-profit organisation. He was decorated "Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur".

Jean Schréder was President of many associations throughout his career

Jean was known for his joie de vivre, his courtesy, his generosity of heart, his enthusiasm, but also for his sense of humour and his love for food which characterises the Schréder family so well.

We send our deepest sympathies to all his family and friends.

A religious ceremony in his memory will take place on Monday 25th July at 10.00am at the Abbaye de la Cambre in Brussels. Jean wished for people to wear colour, and not black, at this service.
