Smart sports lighting solution to enhance community well-being with low costs
Quilicura, a rapidly developing suburb of Santiago, combines residential life with a thriving industrial sector. Although it has less green space than nearby neighbourhoods, the local authorities are keen to develop a strong community spirit by creating spaces for relaxation and sport. In 2023, they built a new multi-purpose sports field in a social housing estate to provide residents with a safe and accessible space for recreation, promote healthier lifestyles and foster a stronger sense of community.
Low-energy sports lighting to encourage the community to play
The local authorities wanted a sports lighting solution that would deliver the required lighting levels for a recreational court with low energy consumption to reduce operating costs and a long service life to minimise maintenance.
The INDU FLOOD was ideal. This highly-efficient and cost-effective floodlight provides a bright white light for excellent visibility and colour perception, enabling people to clearly see the action on the court with high visual comfort. A total of 36 INDU FLOOD luminaires (375W) were installed on 20m high masts, directing the light down to the ground for a high level of uniformity across the pitch, creating an optimal environment for playing sport.
Schréder ITERRA so that the community can easily adjust the sports lighting
While the local authorities wanted a sports lighting system that would enable residents to use the court all year long, it was important that the lighting could be easily switched off when the court is not in use.
All the floodlights are connected to the Schréder ITERRA wireless control system that enables the local residents’ committee to easily adjust the lighting using an easy-to-use App on mobile devices. The committee can switch the floodlights on and off as well as control the floodlights on each mast separately.
By switching on the floodlights only when they are needed, the local authorities will further reduce energy costs and eliminate any potential for light spill at night for local residents.
A wireless control system to reduce costs
As Schréder ITERRA is a wireless solution, there was no need to lay cables, thus avoiding unnecessary extra costs. The Schréder ITERRA GATEWAY LIGHT connects the ITERRA control system to the cloud, using a local Bluetooth 5.0 technology to ensure a stable and reliable connection at all times.
