Lussy sports complex
LED sports lighting reduces operating costs by 60% while improving the sporting experience
Located in an exceptionally calm and green setting, the Lussy sports complex in Châtel-Saint-Denis offers a wide range of sports facilities, including 3 multipurpose halls, 3 football pitches, a running track and a mountain bike and BMX track for the local community.
In 2023, the local council decided to renovate the sports complex to:
- reduce operating costs;
- comply with lighting standards and
- improve the experience for both athletes and spectators.
Teamwork to deliver sports lighting that meets every challenge
The architectural, technical and installation aspects of the new sports lighting presented a number of challenges - a project that our teams love to take on! They all worked together to ensure that the project was completed on time with the various partners, including the installation of the masts, and to deliver a lighting solution that met expectations.
Sports lighting that adapts to needs with 60% energy savings
We delivered 28 ECOBLAST floodlights that were mounted on four 37-metre high masts.
The floodlights can be controlled separately to provide the light levels required for each sport. For example, they provide 224 lux for the football pitch (105 x 68m) during matches and 124 lux for the 6 lanes of the athletics track during competitions. The light levels can be reduced to 80 lux for both sports during training.
These highly efficient sports LED floodlights consume 42,56KW, achieving energy savings of 60% compared to the old floodlights with traditional discharge lamps that consumed 94,60KW.
More flexibility for the sports club
In addition to the pre-programmed lighting scenarios, the new floodlights give the club more flexibility. The old floodlights required a 20-minute wait before they could be switched on but the new ones have an instant switch on/off mode.

The project was completed on time and within budget. We can say that it was a success!
We were delighted to work with the local authorities on this project and to deliver a lighting solution that met their expectations in terms of quality of light, energy savings, improved user experience and timeframe.
We worked hand in hand with the municipality of Châtel-Saint-Denis to create what is now, in my opinion, one of the finest sports centres in the south of Fribourg.
