TECEO luminaires deliver a better quality of lighting with 80% less energy
In 2011, the council in Soto del Real decided to replace the 3,227 luminaires lighting the town in order to improve the quality of lighting, increase energy efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint.
As part of a larger programme to become a smart city, the town council collaborated with the Institute for Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE), and the Spanish Lighting Committee (CEI), decided to set an example for other Spanish towns and cities by fully converting its public lighting scheme to LED technology to maximise energy savings.
A public tender specifying very strict technical requirements was launched, and Schréder's LED solution, offering a minimal total cost of ownership, won the tender.
LED lighting with 80% energy savings
The TECEO luminaire is equipped with an autonomous dimming system and has cut energy consumption by a significant 80% compared to the previous lighting scheme using traditional light sources.
More than 2,700 TECEO luminaires now light the main streets and roads, and nearly 300 LFH-style lanterns have been fitted with LEDs to replace the traditional lanterns. This winning combination of LED solutions enables the town to save over 1,625,500 kWh of energy and reduce CO₂ emissions by 634 tonnes each year.
Better quality of light
Energy savings and a reduced ecological footprint are not the only advantages. The luminaires diffuse a bright white light that improves the feeling of safety and strengthens the town’s identity by creating a warm and convivial nocturnal ambiance. The residents of this town, located 43km from the capital city, Madrid, are delighted with the lighting scheme.

The main objective was to improve energy efficiency but we also supported this project to improve comfort and safety. By using state-of-the-art LED lighting, the town lighting has evolved significantly. The residents of Soto del Real are now enjoying the benefits of high-quality lighting.
